What impact has your study abroad experience had on your life and studies?

My study abroad experience has encouraged me to more closely consider the perspectives of non-Americans in my work and personal opinions. It has taught me to be more aware of the way in which our actions are perceived in other places and the importance of diverse opinions. I also appreciated working within a foreign university environment, which has further shifted my perspective on my own university experience at Fordham and in America more generally in comparison.

How will you keep your study abroad experience alive back in the US and Fordham?

I will keep in touch with professors and friends I met abroad, and incorporate the various perspectives I encountered into my thoughts and work.

What suggestions or advice would you give to a prospective study abroad student?

I would advise that, in choosing a location to study abroad, prospective students should weigh their own individual interest and intellectual curiosities over all other considerations. Thoughts of cost and academic credit are important but considering familiarity and convenience over intellectual stimulation and a new environment will result in an unfulfilling experience abroad. You can always take a foreign vacation, but the holistic experience of studying in a new environment is not a chance everyone gets and shouldn't be wasted.
